5. Ring Announcer (Almost) Wins The WCW Championship - 2nd October 2000
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2taco_booker-t-vs-jeff-jarrett-wcw-title_sport Dave Penzer had been the ring announcer for WCWs flagship television show for five years, and the only involvement hed ever had with the in-ring product up until this moment was some light ribbing courtesy of Chris Jericho. That all changed following the San Francisco 49er Match For Gold pole match between Booker T and Jeff Jarrett on Monday Nitro in early October 2000. The gimmick was that on top of the four turnbuckles were four poles, and on top of the four poles were four boxes. Three boxes contained anything from comedy items to perfectly legal weapons to use on your hapless opponent, while the fourth contained the WCW Championship belt. The first person to grab the belt wins the match, and the title. Naturally no one expected the box with the belt to be opened first, second or even third. The first box contained a blow-up doll, the second a picture of Scott Hall, and the third contained a sap glove, which Jarrett uses to pummel Booker senseless. Following interference, however, its Booker whos about to climb the pole to lift the WCW Championship belt out of the final box only for the belt to fall out of the box before Booker could lay his mitts on it. And in a moment of utter foolishness, the hapless ring announcer Penzer picked up the belt and handed it to Booker T. This occurred a week after Russo won the title, and following his vacating of the title. Had the bearded one been able to think on his feet fast enough, we might well have been treated to a ring announcer WCW Champion to close Monday Nitro. Fortunately, saner heads prevailed this time, and Booker T was declared the winner of the match.
