According to Bruce Prichard, speaking on Something To Wrestle With, Vince McMahon was directly involved with the creation of the 'Carlito Caribbean Cool' gimmick. "He loved his gimmick," he added.

Somewhat amusingly, Prichard may have just corroborated a wild story drafted into urban legend by former creative writer Dan Madigan. Madigan, allegedly in the room when Vince explained his vision - hopefully, by demonstrating the apple bit and going full ham - claimed that Vince had a particular note he wished to emphasise. Was Carlito too laidback? Did he take too small a bite from his ever-present apple?

No.

His verbal delivery was too racially sensitive and too consistent with a real and authentic human being.

Again, it must be stressed, Vince McMahon allegedly instructed Carlito to "sp*c it up some". An incredulous Madigan repeated the instruction with a more jokey cadence, in a presumed attempt to ease the tension felt by the people in the room capable of feeling it. "Vince's image of a Puerto Rican was a Puerto Rican pimp," Madigan stated in an anecdote revealed in Matthew Randazzo V's controversial 2008 book 'Ring Of Hell'.

Not that it requires evidence, but comparing Carlito's onscreen delivery and his normal speaking voice yields quite the exaggerated contrast.

Vince McMahon: not even realising he's spitting in your face since 1945.
