Kane is usually booked as a monster, as a destructive force, as one who doesn't usually abide by rules, instructions or any other guidelines. In opposition to his typical persona, he's been in a surprising amount of successful tag-teams. In late 1998, Kane was committed to the insane asylum as punishment because he interfered in The Undertaker's match against Austin, subsequently making him lose his spot in the 1999 Royal Rumble. To avoid this punishment, he joined the Corporation but was later thrown out. In retaliation, he began teaming with The Corporation's major rivals, Degeneration-X. He'd not become a stable member of DX, though it was heavily teased at many points, he'd mainly team with X-Pac. The duo won the World Tag-Team Championships twice, X-Pac even helped the Big Red Monster utter his first words in the WWF - DX's slogan 'suck it'. The two were a comedic odd couple, but they actually functioned incredibly well in the ring, even though the pairing seemed somewhat bizarre at the time. Towards the end, X-Pac lead Kane to believe he could join DX, before X-Pac turned heel along with the rest of the faction, once again. The concept of X-Pac and Kane is bizarre when you consider it out of context, but it goes to show how well stables, allegiances and factions were used to create unusual and desperate partnerships in the Attitude Era. The partnership is somewhat forgettable now, but could have been a tag-team for the ages had Kane actually joined DX.
