Hulk Hogan's return to the WWE in 2002 was an odd run in terms of booking, besides the feud with The Rock and the NWO stuff, creative seemed to have very little for him to do. He lost to The Rock, won and lost his last WWF Championship, and had a mediocre feud with Kurt Angle. Considering these would go on to be his last performances in a WWE ring, a mediocre run with the declining tag-team division hardly seems like one to tick off the bucket list. Regardless, Hulk Hogan would team up with Edge to capture the tag-titles from Billy and Chuck in July, 2002. Edge isn't exactly a bad choice to team up with Hogan, it's more the fact that the tag-team itself was a bit pointless, they had no history, common ground or anything - it could have literally been anyone else. Upon winning the titles, the pair waved the American flag as the crowd rejoiced and chanted Hogan's theme song, but Edge is Canadian and their opponents were American. The irony was made all the more potent by the fact they lost the titles at Vengeance to Christian and Lance Storm - The Un-Americans. Everything about this tag-team run and pairing felt so synthetic, obviously laid out just as something for Hulk to do. It also begs to question why they didn't bring back any of the NWO guys who originally appeared with Hogan such as Hall or Nash, or go for tag-team gold while the NWO reunion angle was still going on. While Edge and Hogan weren't crazy for the comic effect, weirdness or lack of suit in their team, there is just no logic behind this duo or the run they existed on.
