10 Crazy WWE Stunts (And How They Did Them)

8. Paul Bearer And The Concrete Crypt

WWE made virtually no attempt to convince fans Paul Bearer was really left to die in a tank of concrete at Great American Bash 2004. How could they, when hilarious footage of the spot being rehearsed in an empty arena was soon after leaked?

Unfortunately, that clip doesn't actually reveal how they were planning to pull it off on the night itself - which means we're left to figure it out for ourselves.

The answer seems pretty obvious: they used pre-recorded footage (possibly the very footage we watched them shoot in the rehearsal). You can tell by the fact that the shots of Bearer are always close-ups, and there's never one from behind Undertaker's back.

The interesting part is how they straightened all this out for the live audience. It seems those in the arena would have just been looking at The Deadman watching an empty tank fill with concrete as Bearer surreptitiously slips out through the back.

Apparently, WWE even gave them an alternate ending after the cameras were switched off whereby EMTs dug him out and carried him off on a stretcher.
