Karrion Kross returned to NXT this past week, following an unfortunate shoulder separation just as he'd claimed the brand's top prize. Prior to this misfortune, he and his partner Scarlett were one of the most compelling acts in NXT. Their introduction vignettes were some of the talented production team’s best work. Kross kept the momentum going, taking the NXT Championship at TakeOver: XXX.

Kross has the look of someone seconds away from snapping. It’s all in his eyes. His perfect teeth could be a Hollywood smile, but he bears them like a ravenous animal. He alternates between a soft but gruff voice and screaming into the camera’s lens. Scarlett’s mixture of soft beauty and brooding menace is spellbinding, like an angel who holds the dubious distinction of falling further than any before her.

Kross was even fearsome during his speech to relinquish the NXT Championship. Usually an emotional affair which breaches the fourth wall, Kross was intense as ever, including a vivid description of “ripping the title off Keith Lee’s carcass like flesh from bone”.
