10 Creepy Things You Need To Know About WWE Superstars

3. Kurt Angle Hinted That He Would Die In The Ring

When Kurt Angle was released from WWE in 2006, there was huge concern about his health. Though he denied rumors following the death of Eddie Guerrero that he was on a similar path, WWE's willingness to part ways with one of its biggest stars clearly meant that there were problems. Angle was rumored to be suffering from drug addiction and a multitude of injuries. Was it possible that the company was looking to avoid another public relations nightmare? Still, there was hope that Angle would use the time off to get his health and his life sorted out. Those hopes were shattered when, less that a month after his WWE release, he was announced as having signed with TNA. Fans feared that the fledging company, desperate to gain ground on WWE, would enable Angle's habits any way they could, exploiting him for the sake of growth -- and for all the criticism of WWE's drug testing policy, TNA didn't have anything of the sort. Angle hit the ground running in TNA and never slowed down. Worries continued to mount. In a 2008 TNA DVD release on his career, he said:
My dad took a lot of pride in his work. He did it for 34 years and he would have done it until the day he died and that's what he did, you know? He died on the job. I guess that's kind of the way my whole family is, you know? We just go and go and go until we can't go anymore. That's how I've always lived my life, the way my dad did. That same philosophy.
The implication was a bit chilling. What Angle would have considered a proud end, millions of fans would have considered tragic and traumatic. In the ensuing years, Angle has had his ups and downs, but thankfully, he appears to be doing well now. He's stated that he plans to retire at the end of 2015, and we're all hoping he takes a much-deserved rest.
