10 Cringe-Worthy Interviews With The Undertaker

8. Admiring George Strait – 2017

Everyone knew The Undertaker’s reign at WrestleMania would eventually have to end as much as they knew one day The Deadman would have to retire.

While his retirement was far from confirmed, and recent rumors point to another ‘Mania match, it did appear the Gunslinger walked away from WWE after being defeated by Roman Reigns on the Grandest Stage of Them All. He even went as far to leave his signature regalia in the ring.

The allure of his absence could have been held onto well after ‘Mania, which would have provided both ‘Taker and WWE time to contemplate what was next. Instead, mere days later, snippets of Mark Calloway appeared on a George Strait tribute video.

While there was no shame in shouting out to another entertainer, the timing was downright awful. One night we witnessed The Prince of Darkness go toe-to-toe with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania, and a few days later he was out of the Deadman garb, looking very much like a senior version of the American Badass character.

There was no time lapse. There was no transition.

After decades of suspending disbelief and buying into his omnipotent character, fans were told to accept a candid Calloway, one who felt strong emotions over country music, and a man who merely once played the role of a mortician on WWE TV.
