10 Crippling Times Wrestlers Worked Themselves Into A Shoot

7. Matt Hardy

In 2004, with partner Matt Hardy shelved by a knee injury, Lita embarked on an affair with new road buddy Edge.

Destroyed by it all, in early 2005, Matt disclosed the lurid details in an incendiary online rant. This rant put a brief end to his professional life, too; WWE, wary of any further backlash that may have manifested as a physical altercation, released Hardy from his contract in April. Hardy essentially booked his own release here; had he not dealt with the situation publicly, WWE would not have had even the thinnest of justifications to rid itself of the headache.

WWE did not anticipate the fan backlash; arena crowds, in deafening voice, threw their support behind Hardy. Cucks used to be over, strange as that is to read in 2018.

Acquiescing to those demands, Hardy then worked himself into a worked shoot: WWE capitalised on the furore by bringing Hardy back to attack Edge backstage, and again in the arena (immediately ruining suspension of disbelief in the process) on the July 11 RAW. The worked shoot programme in full swing, only Edge emerged in the ascendency; WWE used his real-life sh*thouse aura to catapult him into the main event, where Hardy, now that the intrigue had died down, floundered on the blue brand.

Hardy got his happy ending, years later: he got so over as a result of his delightfully bizarre BROKEN bit that Vince McMahon broadcast the Ultimate Deletion in the main event slot of RAW, even though he absolutely hated it.
