10 Current Stars Who Should Have Been WWE Champion By Now
7. Cody Rhodes
There was a brief time where it seemed like fan support might carry Cody Rhodes to the main event. It began last year at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view where he had a show-stealing performance in the eponymous match, only to be double-crossed by his tag partner Damien Sandow. Then, in September he was placed into a match with Randy Orton that he had to win otherwise hed be fired. After losing the match and being shown the door, he cut an impassioned promo about how the McMahon family has been stepping on the Rhodes family for generations and displayed a fire few knew he had. The Rhodes got their revenge on The Authority when Cody along with Goldust defeated The Shield for the Tag Team Championship with their father in their corner. However, the story never truly felt over, and in many ways the tag title victory felt like a consolation prize. Cody Rhodes proved to the world that he has the potential and popularity to be a main event superstar, but the narrative didnt have any room for him. The story was Daniel Bryan v The Authority, and while adding Cody at the time may not have worked, hes more than earned it by now.
