10 Current WWE Observations From A Lapsed Fan

5. There Aren't Many Big Stars

Looking at WWE's main roster now, things are a little thin on the ground. Sure, they're nowhere near as bad as they were in 1995, when the then-WWF could only really look at Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker as genuine headliners fans wanted to see, but the company don't really have a lot of options to create magic at the box office at the moment. Guys like Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, Daniel Bryan and their counterparts may all be very good at what they do, but they don't feel as grand as the likes of Michaels, Undertaker, The Rock, Steve Austin, Mick Foley or the plethora of other legitimate box office stars the promotion had at their disposal years ago. Hell, even in 2001, fresh blood coming in from WCW such as Booker T helped prop things up a bit more. This has a lot to do with the way WWE present their talent, just look at the way Vince McMahon spoke about his roster a few months ago on the Steve Austin podcast. Pretty much saying that the men and women working for him now didn't want to be stars quite as badly as the previous generation, McMahon name-checked John Cena as a notable example to the rest of his talent.
