Lance Cade was a young wrestler who always seemed to be on the verge of ascending to the next tier of superstar in WWE, but sadly it never happened. His team with Trevor Murdoch was the most success he ever enjoyed, and despite being trained by Shawn Michaels, he was never able to put it all together and make that final jump the being a top guy. Lance - real name McNaught - passed away on August 13th, 201o from a combination of drug intoxication and cardiomyopathy at just 29 years of age. He was released from WWE in 2008 but had been rehired the following year, then released again in April of 2010 after a stint in rehab. Normally when a performer passes away they get a respectful treatment from WWE, but Cade was treated as little more than a footnote and the reason soon became obvious. During the time of his death, Linda McMahon was in the midst of one of her failed Senate campaigns, one in which her opponent had already attacked her for WWE's content and tactics. As with all things political, Cade's death would soon be used as a ploy. McMahon was taking heavy fire from opponents over the high mortality rate of wrestlers who had at one time worked for the company, often due to drug-related issues. When asked to address the death of Lance Cade, Linda responded with the callous "I may have met him once", before dismissing his problems with the statement of "Who knows what causes people to have addictions and do what they do?" When all was said and done, Linda McMahon blew through a reported $97 million of the McMahon family's personal fortune for her pair of failed attempt to join the Senate.
