10 Depressing Wrestling Retirement Matches

8. Kevin Nash Vs. Hulk Hogan (Road Wild 1999)

Goldberg Retirement Sin

This match was not only for Hogan's championship, it was also a retirement match. It marked the first time that the two had 'wrestled' since the infamous Fingerpoke of Doom; Hogan was back in his yellow and red as a babyface. Surprisingly, this was downplayed by commentators and video hype.

And videos were necessary, because the title had changed hands so many times in the previous few months it was impossible to keep track of who won it when and if they were heel or face.

As the main event, you would expect a pretty good crowd reaction... but you'd be wrong. Hogan and Nash had fought so many times and in so many ways that their rivalry no longer had any meaning, and no one really cared about the stakes.

About the only thing that drew a reaction was that Hogan acted like it was 1989, not '99, and did his classic Hogan shtick - Hulking up, big boot, leg drop, match over. Aside from this small nostalgia factor, this was still 1999 WCW, and it was obvious that both Nash and Hogan were just there for the paycheque.

Also, Nash would be back in six weeks as part of a new nWo.
