10 Depressing Wrestling Retirement Matches

7. Kevin Nash Vs. Scott Steiner (Superbrawl Revenge 2001)

This is another retirement that happened because of timing. Specifically, the timing of WCW finally imploding and being bought by WWE.

In a last minute addition to the Superbrawl Revenge card, it was decided the main event of the show would be Nash vs. Steiner, for Steiner's title, with the loser retiring from WCW.

What was pretty predictable turned into a huge cluster.

Nash started things off by hitting Steiner with the title belt, pinning him in 17 seconds. Ric Flair, for some reason, was empowered to make changes and made it a two out of three falls match with no-DQ rules.

After DDP, Buff Bagwell, Flair and Midajah all got involved, Steiner hit Nash with a steel pipe but couldn't get him back into the ring, prompting Flair to make it a falls count anywhere match. First pin (on the floor) to Steiner.

More chicanery ensued, with continued interference and several chair shots, resulting in Steiner getting the second pinfall and the win.

Nash was gone from WCW. The thing was, in a few weeks, so was everyone else, so, really, this was another meaningless car wreck that only dragged down everyone involved.

In other words, a perfect microcosm of late-era WCW.
