Although often regarded as a "nothing" Pay Per View, with no particular stipulation or sense of occasion to set it apart, Battleground did prove important in a transitional sense. Fans saw Seth Rollins escape by the skin of his teeth yet again, benefitting from the Undertaker's dramatic return and revenge attack on Brock Lesnar. Meanwhile, the highly intense feud between John Cena and Kevin Owens took an opinion-dividing turn, with the US Champion forcing the indie darling to tap out to the STF. Although it came at the end of an undoubtable Match of the Year contender, Cena's rubber-match triumph threatens to kill Owens' push dead in the water. However, it's very unlikely that the former ROH Champion will go quietly into the night, and his wrath will surely be emphatic. Further down the card, Roman Reigns lost to Bray Wyatt in a curious finish which saw the return of Luke Harper, while Sheamus continued the strange trend of most Money In The Bank winners by decisively losing his next PPV encounter. Nothing is set in stone for August's SummerSlam Pay Per View, with no matches yet scheduled for the card, but the WWE's booking of Battleground has given them a number of different avenues to pursue.
