10 Dirtiest Tricks WWE Heels Pulled To Inspire Hate

4. HBK Trolls Montreal

Such was the infamy of the Montreal Screwjob, even in subsequent decades wrestlers could generate massive crowd reactions by playing off it. And when the person doing so is none other than the Showstopper himself, you know you’re going to get something truly spectacular.

That is what happened on the 15 August 2005 episode of Raw when Michaels trolled the Montreal crowd with the one thing they cared about the most: Bret Hart’s return.

As Shawn was in the ring cutting a heel promo in the build-up to his match with Hulk Hogan at Summerslam, the Hitman’s music hit. The crowd, which had been burning with rage towards Michaels during the entirety of the segment, predictably went wild. The jubilation lasted over a minute until the dreaded realization set in that they had been played. Michaels had taken their emotions and made an absolute mockery of them. It was incredible heelwork, but also a very dirty way of doing so.
