1. Vince McMahon Is The Higher Power
...until WWE stole the crown on one of RAW's most infamous episodes.
To explain the much-maligned Higher Power storyline in a nutshell - Vince McMahon spent much of 1999 being terrorised by the Ministry of Darkness who, among other things, kidnapped his daughter and attempted to sacrifice her to a "Higher Power" in a quasi-Satanic ritual. The twist? Vince McMahon was the Higher Power, and he did it all to... *sigh*...mess with Steve Austin.
If that was painful to read, it was even worse experiencing it live. Even as a callow 12 year old, this writer felt cheated to have sat through months of Buffy-lite stupidity for that pay-off. McMahon was the CEO of the company! He'd been feuding with Austin for over a year! On what planet was Vince kidnapping his daughter and mentally scarring her for life the logical escalation of his beef with Stone Cold?
Oh well. The one consolation was that WWE learned their lesson, and Vince never again declared himself to be the the unassailable mastermind of an infamously malicious organization.
