10 Disturbing WCW Nitro Moments You Totally Don't Remember

7. Oklahoma Commentates 'Piñata On A Pole' (15 November 1999)

Oklahoma was everywhere in late-1999/early-2000, even behind the commentary desk.

On the 15 November '99 Nitro, WCW ran a Vince Russo special. Long-obsessed with the idea of putting something on a pole and pretending it was exciting, Russo booked the thin-veiled racism of 'Piñata On A Pole' and had a bunch of Mexican wrestlers fight it out for money. Wow.

As Juventud Guerrera, Psychosis and others were fine workers, the actual match itself didn't suck. The idea certainly did however, and it seemed crass even back then. This was a bout nobody asked for, and it blatantly existed only so Oklahoma could continue ribbing Jim Ross by screaming things obnoxiously over his headset.

Imagine WWE tried something like this today. The outrage would be intense, and rightly so. How this was supposed to paint Juvi or his fellow Cruiserweights in a favourable light is anyone's guess. Sorry, Russo, but there's no defending this small-minded sh*t.
