10 Disturbing Wrestling Bumps That Nearly Went Badly Wrong

5. Seth Rollins' Horrifying Last-Gasp Escape

Not a bump per se, this was certainly disturbing and it certainly almost went drastically wrong.

On the September 8, 2014 edition of Monday Night RAW, Roman Reigns clashed with Randy Orton in the main event. As part of the ongoing Authority storyline, with Orton close to defeat, Seth Rollins and Corporate Kane, flanked by production personnel, ran interference and signalled for the Steel Cage to be lowered. This looked a bit silly; pitched as an unruly heel beatdown, the various staffers undermined the visual. This was meant to be an impromptu attack. What if Orton had simply won? Did Corporate Kane flash them all a few hundreds with no time to explain? Where those staffers online mutants aghast at the Roman Reigns push?

The scene took a literally sharper turn in tone than anything Vince Russo ever dredged up, from farcical to horrifying, as Seth Rollins, removed from the ring, attempted to climb back in. Ironically, he wasn't meant to; the lowering cage was meant to spell his doom, but something else almost, actually did: a metal spike that connected cage to the ring. Rollins noticed this from his mind's eye at the last second, as the spike came perilously close to impaling his spine.

Somehow, he sold more terror for the Fiend.
