10 Dream Opponents For Cody's AEW TNT Title
6. Amazing Red
There is arguably no single wrestler more influential in the current style of independent wrestling than Amazing Red. The moves he invented and the ways he wrestled in the early 2000s were something generally unseen in American wrestling. Yet, Amazing Red has never been given the credit he deserves from fans, despite most modern wrestlers citing him as an influence.
Amazing Red's early work in TNA still holds up as some of the most vital and dynamic wrestling of its era, truly timeless performances that would be seismically impressive in 2020, let alone in 2002. His career never truly took off in the mainstream and led to a brief retirement, but Red has made his comeback and proved against Will Ospreay last year that he is still one of the greatest in the game.
If AEW wants to honour independent wrestling's past, present and future, they should have one of the most important workers of the 21st century face off against Cody and tell the entire world just how important he is. The match would be incredible, Red's one of the all time greatest babyfaces due to his stature, selling and jawdropping moves, and he would get a TV classic out of Cody. But the quality of the match isn't as important as finally giving Red the praise and adoration he deserves, from a company he indirectly laid the foundations for.
