10 Dream Steve Austin WWE WrestleMania Matches We'd Rather See

Screw the rules. These fantasy 'Stone Cold' WWE matches sound like WrestleMania heaven.

'Stone Cold' Steve Austin is about to work his first match since WrestleMania XIX.

Well, maybe. Reports are popping up all over the place that WWE first contacted Austin about an in-ring return back in late-December 2021, and they're determined to make it happen. That's only half the story, because the legend himself has been poked and prodded about wrestling again since 2003 - the company has craved this for almost 20 years.

Kevin Owens is being circled as Austin's likely opponent if he pulls on the boots in time for 'Mania 38 this April. That's a...strange choice. No disrespect intended to KO, but he probably isn't the man most wrestling fans would think about when dreaming of that elusive 'Rattlesnake' comeback.

So, who is?

The rules are very clear for this list. There are none! These are dream bouts, and that means reality gets tossed right out the window. Some current WWE favourites are involved, but there's a definite fantasy element pinning everything down.

You're also 100% about to balk at some of these suggestions too. That's fine, 'cause everyone has their own picks.

10. Hulk Hogan

Balk/throw pitchforks at the writer penning this piece.

Is anyone suggesting that Hulk Hogan is the ideal opponent for Austin in 2022? To quasi-butcher the man's catchphrase, hell no. Hulk couldn't physically do it, and it's hardly like 'Stone Cold' will be working like he did in his prime either if he does return.

Still, this is very much 'one that got away' for wrestling fans. WWE fancied doing it back when Hogan returned to the company in 2002, but Steve was in a different place mentally at the time and wasn't sold. So, two of the biggest megastars in industry history have yet to lock up mid-ring.

Note the "dream match" idea being presented here. Austin vs. Hogan would qualify as one of those, and that's true regardless of individual thoughts about Hulk. Vince McMahon would bloody love to have this box office smash on his hands these days.

Put those pitchforks away, please.
