'Stone Cold' at WrestleMania 38? WWE have been plotting this for a while.

Social media was buzzing when news broke that WWE fancies sticking Steve Austin vs. Kevin Owens in the ring at WrestleMania 38.

PWInsider has offered an update on the situation - they're reporting that WWE first approached 'Stone Cold' about the gig in late-December 2021. What's more, the company originally wanted to kick off a comeback story during January's Royal Rumble.

That obviously didn't happen, but Owens did start slagging off Texas during Monday's episode of Raw. It's possible that this 'KO hates Texas' angle could facilitate Austin's return to TV instead. That'd certainly make sense.

PWInsider's sources told them that WWE loves the idea of booking one more 'Stone Cold' match in front of his fellow Texans. They're also aware that having such a golden carrot to dangle in front of fans would likely boost ticket sales for at least one of the nights this April.

Internally, Austin at 'Mania was described as a "Hail Mary idea" from creative. They'd be interested in having the legend on the show even if he doesn't agree to wrestle. So, if the Owens match is a no-goer, then expect Steve to show up as some sort of "guest host".
