10 Dream Wrestling Matches That Only Happened On TV

10. Shawn Michaels vs. Shelton Benjamin (Monday Night Raw; May 2, 2005)

The year of 2005 for Shawn Michaels will be widely remembered for his classic clashes with Kurt Angle, but the year also played host to this gem of a match between Michalels and Shelton Benjamin. Believed to be one of the best matches in the history of Monday Night Raw, Benjamin and Michaels met in the quarterfinals of a Gold Rush tournament where the winner would be named the No. 1 contender to the World Heavyweight Championship. Of all the matches to take place in the tourney, this was ultimately the one that fans remember most, and it was only in the first round! A former tag team champion, Benjamin was on the rise at the time, and a match against one of the greatest of all-time would surely put his talent to the rest. Although he was the-then reigning Intercontinental champion, the title wasn't on the line for this contest, nor did it need to be. Fans were aware of how agile both athletes were and knew going in to this bout that it'd be instant classic. As it would turn out, it was nothing less than that. Michaels and Benjamin battled it out knowing that a world championship match was hanging high in the balance, pulling everything out of their respective repertoires to put the other away. In one of the most iconic finishing sequences of all-time, Benjamin leaped off the top rope only to be met with a Sweet Chin Music from The Heartbreak Kid himself, leading to the victory. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMKxYoFzAjg It's a shame WWE never capitalized off Benjamin's strong showing in this match by having these two engage in a feud later down the line.
