10 Dream Wrestling Matches That Only Happened Once

8. CM Punk vs. Eddie Guerrero

CM Punk Eddit Guerrero
IWA Mid South

In early 2002, a brash young CM Punk was starting to build a name for himself as IWA Mid-South’s champion. Meanwhile, Eddie Guerrero had left WWE due to personal issues and was rebuilding himself on the indies and in Japan. Their paths would cross just one in singles competition, and the sense of what could have been is palpable.

That’s not to say their match isn’t good, because it has plenty going for it. Guerrero brings star power in spades, swaggering around the ring and folding Punk with his selection of suplexes and kicks. If Punk isn’t the fully formed in ring competitor, his charisma is already off the scales; he feels like a star on Eddie’s level.

Punk eventually goes over - for which he later said he was very grateful to the late veteran - but this had the scope to be a great rivalry had their paths crossed again a little later on. Both wrestlers had that most valuable of qualities, to be able to get over basically being themselves but dialled up a bit. Had things turned out differently, it could have been a rivalry for the ages.
