10 Dream Wrestling Matches That Only Happened Once
6. Trish Stratus vs Charlotte Flair
A cross-generational match of a slightly bittersweet nature, this SummerSlam 2019 show stealer makes it apparent just how much Trish Stratus could have accomplished had she worked in an era that cared more about women’s wrestling.
While she had some great matches at the time, she never worked a talent like Charlotte, and the past and present of WWE’s women's division combine to put on a real clinic. The cocky Flair spends long spells underestimating the returning veteran, using her size advantage to shove Trish around, but Stratus fights from underneath and shows off steel and technique that was sadly underutilised in her day.
In front of a hometown Toronto crowd especially, Stratus feels every bit the megastar, and while Flair pulls the strings, Trish’s selling and emotional work are the backbones of the match. Flair ultimately locks on the Figure Eight for the win, bringing back that bittersweet feeling as Stratus presumably says goodbye to the business. Maybe this one could happen again; if not, it was a tremendous send off to a legend.
