This writer was in attendance for Clash At The Castle 2024. He watched in awe as thousands of unhappy fans streamed out of Glasgow's Hydro venue chanting, "We Want Refunds" and, "Bullsh*t". People were angry that Damian Priest beat Drew on his homecoming, and it was lost on many that WWE were telling quite the story.

CM Punk ran in wearing a ref shirt and flashed two fingers up at Drew with a smirk. Ultimately, Punk cost his arch nemesis glory on home soil, and he's kinda lucky he escaped without 12,000 angry Scots storming the ring in protest. Afterwards, via social media, other fans piled on and criticised the decision.

On the surface, having McIntyre win in Scotland was an easy play, but WWE has a global audience to appease. They've also got stories to tell that are more important than localised dominance. Punk screwing Drew out of the belt was the right move in the bigger picture, but that wasn't clear to some on the night.
