10 Dumbest Storylines In WWE History

2. Matt Hates Jeff

For years fans had clamoured for a Jeff Hardy WWE Title reign and in December 2008, they got their wish when Hardy defeated Edge and Triple H in a triple threat match. This great moment was quickly derailed when Jeff became more accident prone than The Shockmaster in the weeks after, with sabotaged fireworks and a car accident among other things.

Many fans expected the soon-to-be returning Christian as the culprit, helping brother-retconned-into-friend Edge take Jeff out. Aware this plan had leaked, WWE pulled a switcharoo with Christian going off to ECW purgatory and Matt Hardy being responsible, helping Edge (his long running hated nemesis) take the title back from Jeff.

What followed was several very entertaining matches between the two brothers sandwiched between Jerry Springer-lite family feud promos during which Matt confessed to burning down Jeff’s trailer and killing his dog (no prison time for any of this either).

Jeff moved on to high quality feuds with Edge and CM Punk soon after while Matt moved on to almost immediately swerving back into babyface territory and apologising to Jeff. All had been forgiven within a matter of weeks and Christian received no momentum in WWE until 2011. A bad call all round and a dark creative mark on the WWE careers of the fan favourite Hardys.

For once, TNA did it better.
