10 Dumbest Ways WWE Wrestlers Killed Their Push

5. Rob Van Dam

It took Rob Van Dam more than half a decade to ascend the wrestling ladder, and yet when he finally reached the top in 2006, all of his hard work was undone by one extremely bad decision.

The story here, for anyone who hasn't seen the memes, is that RVD - then the WWE and ECW Champion - was pulled over by the cops one evening and arrested for possession of marijuana. When his employers found out, they stripped him of both titles in the space of 24 hours.

Since the United States is now moving towards legalisation, Mr Monday Night himself may well argue that his actions weren't really that a big a deal, although you do wonder whether he couldn't perhaps have steered clear of the stuff for a couple of months.

In his defence, though, it's unlikely that his main event run would have lasted much longer at any rate. For all his success, it never really seemed Vince McMahon believed in Van Dam 100%. He was probably always on borrowed time, drug habit or not.
