Punk had ran away with the championship and apparently wouldn't be returning. That resulted in the angle where Vince McMahon had lost control of the company, leading to Triple H and the board of directors relieving the chairman of his job. This led to both Hunter and Vince starting to tear up. It may have been a wrestling angle, but the emotion was real, this was legitimately meant to be the retirement of the 'Mr McMahon character' from television. Triple H added to the moment by declaring "I love you pop", which was as cringe a line ever heard on Raw. A red eyed Vince then proceeded to cry, as the live audience gave him a rousing ovation. Was it merely first rate acting? Or was McMahon really crying at the thought of never standing foot in front of a live WWE crowd again?
