10 Emotional WWE Moments That Made Fans Cry
5. Macho Man & Miss Elizabeth’s WrestleMania VII Reunion
Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Savage is one of the most important feuds in WWE history, and Miss Elizabeth was at the heart of it. It was Hogan’s supposed affection for her that eventually led to him turning on his Mega Powers partner in February 1989, when a paranoid ‘Macho Man’ abandoned ‘The Hulkster’ during a tag match, then assaulted him in a backstage medical room.
It resulted in a huge WrestleMania V main event, with Hulk overcoming his former friend to become WWF Champion for the second time. As the catalyst of the breakup, Elizabeth was caught in the middle of this, and Savage eventually jettisoned her in favour of Sensational Sherri. Elizabeth’s appearances became increasingly sporadic thereafter, though she occasionally showed up to manage Hogan in further matches with Randy.
Savage’s heel run continued, and Elizabeth disappeared from television. ‘Macho Man’s’ career was on the ropes by 1992, however, and he faced The Ultimate Warrior in a Retirement Match at WrestleMania VII. He was defeated, and Sherri lost her mind, assaulting Savage while he was already down.
Elizabeth couldn’t take it anymore. She ran to her former man’s aid, and cleared Sherri from the ring to a monstrous pop. Savage couldn’t believe his eyes, but they were finally reunited, and many an audience member shed tears of joy as Randy jubilantly hoisted Elizabeth onto his shoulders.
