10 Epic Moments The Undertaker Broke Character In WWE

5. End Of An Era Embrace

The storyline going into WrestleMania 28 was Triple H's insatiable desire to end The Undertaker's streak. He'd came close the year before in a bruising encounter and was promising to be even more brutal. Further stacking the odds against Taker was the fact that Shawn Michaels would be special referee and the match would be taking place inside Hell In A Cell. As expected, it ended up being a vicious encounter. The Undertaker's back was black and blue afterwards, following an onslaught of chair shots from Triple H. But despite the viciousness and Triple H ultimately failing to defeat the streak, the immediate aftermath of the match didn't involve any traditional pro wrestling theatrics. Instead, The Undertaker broke his character and embraced both Triple H and Michaels. It wasn't a moment between The Undertaker and Triple H, it was a moment between Mark Calaway and Paul Levesque. The emotion and reflection on what they'd achieved was real.
