WWE have succeeded only in cooling Dean Ambrose off since The Shield split up in 2014. He's still popular, but he's more 'Goofy Prop Comic' than 'Lunatic Fringe' in 2017. Moments like losing via exploding television at TLC '14 and assaulting The Authority with a hotdog cart have brutalised his character, but the most damaging moment came at WrestleMania 32, when he wrestled Brock Lesnar in a Street Fight.

The match was a huge letdown. It didn't help that 'The Beast' looked like he didn't want to be there (and delivered one of his career's laziest performances), but the structure buried Ambrose's cred.

It took Lesnar just 10 seconds to land his first German Suplex, and thus commenced what amounted to nothing more than an extended squash. Kendo sticks, steel chairs, fire extinguishers: Brock shrugged them all off, and while Dean was allowed a couple of hope spots, the bout was too one-sided to do anything other than crush his momentum.

It has been impossible to see Ambrose as a major threat ever since. His WWE Title win at Money in the Bank was a great moment, and his reign wasn't awful, but WrestleMania 32 sill lingers in the memory, and there's still work to be done before he feels like a major star again.
