The biggest star in WWE history became a Superstar on the grandest stage of them all. Much like Shawn, everyone knew that Austin was a star in the making. All he needed was that match. He needed THE match. And if there was one man that would be able to do that it would be Bret Hart.

Bret Hart was initially supposed to have a match with Shawn Michaels in a rematch from their Iron Man match the year before, but Shawn had “lost his smile” and so he went off and vacated his title. The Undertaker and Sycho Sid main evented the show for the title, but know one was talking about that after the show. That would be the submission match between Bret Hart and Stone Cold. Hart makes Austin look like a million bucks in this match.

The match ends with Austin, dawning a crimson mask, passing out in the Sharpshooter and after the match Hart continues to attack Austin and Austin wakes up and walks to the back himself. The greatest double turn in the history of wrestling cements Austin’s status as a Superstar.

Austin would go on to be a 6 time WWE Champion, a record setting 3 time Royal Rumble winner, and the biggest draw in the history of professional wrestling history.
