10 Exact Moments That Turned WWE Wrestlers Into Superstars
9. Edge - New Year’s Revolution 2006
On January 8th, 2006, Edge wrestled in the first match on the show, failing to capture the Intercontinental Championship from Ric Flair. No one even contemplated the fact that Edge would possibly come back out later in the night. Everyone knew he had a briefcase for a World Title Match whenever he wanted, but what did that mean? Well on this night, everyone found out what that meant, and he set the standard for the cash in of the Money in the Bank.
Vince McMahon came out and said there was one more match, and said Edge would be cashing in his Money in the Bank contract. Two Spears later, we had a new WWE Champion.
After this match, Edge went on to be the top heel in the company for the next 4 years and winning the world title 11 times in the process. He holds the record for the most World Heavyweight Championship runs, holding the title 8 times and has held more championships in the history of the company than any other man. Unfortunately he was told that he had to retire in 2011, his last match was defending the World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania 27.
