10 Exact Moments We Gave Up On A WWE Wrestler's Push
5. Shelton Benjamin
Some have argued that Triple H buried Shelton Benjamin shortly after his switch to Raw off the heels of WrestleMania XX, but that's not altogether accurate.
The only reason any of us took the former Team Angle member seriously as a singles competitor was because of his three victories against the 'King of Kings', after which he was a solid player in the Intercontinental title division, occasionally punching above his weight (if never exactly breaking the glass ceiling).
It was eighteen months later, when Benjamin's "mama" was introduced to the WWE audience, charged with helping her son overcome his inexorable losing streak, that the penny finally dropped: he was destined for a career in the mid-card. There was simply no way anyone could be taken seriously lumbered with that gimmick.
