Steve Austin and Kurt Angle likely knew Buff Bagwell wasn't long for the WWF by the time they punted him from the building on the 2 July 2001 flagship. That segment aired mere minutes after Buff had been stinking the place out in-ring vs. Booker T in a match that was seemingly set up to fail.

His face just didn't fit, and Bagwell wasn't doing much to help that process.

The general consensus backstage was that Buff was full of himself and needed a reality check in a hurry. He'd been scuffling with Shane Helms during training sessions, and his mother had been plaguing Jim Ross with phone calls about her boy that left the executive exasperated and believing Bagwell was anything but 'The Stuff'.

When Buff arrived for Raw the following week, he was pulled aside and informed that the WWF planned to let him go. He remains pretty bitter about that to this day, and thinks things should've panned out differently. Austin and Angle ejecting Buff from the arena was symbolic.
