10 Expectations Vs. Reality For WWE SummerSlam 2021

6. Will Bobby Lashley Retain The WWE Title?

Expectation:

Goldberg is like Shane McMahon.

No, they're not just profuse sweaters in their 50s who turn alarming colours after a minute of work; they're both on two-matches-per-year deals!

And so the result of his match against Bobby Lashley is a certainty: Goldberg will score a near-fall with a spear right out of the gate, Lashley will avoid a second, Goldberg will spear himself head-first into the post, hopefully avoiding head trauma in the process, and, collapsed, will find himself vulnerable for the Hurt Lock, which Lashley can apply to his folded body.

He'll pass out, do the job in about a minute and a half, collect his seven-figure cheque, and do nothing until at least January.

Reality:

The reality is that RAW isn't doing tremendously well in the ratings at present, which is a major indictment. Dynamite and SmackDown have increased viewership. RAW is just RAW.

RAW has played out in front of big arena crowds for a few weeks, and the extent to which it feels like nothing has changed is unbelievable. Between the muted crowds, piped-in noise and regurgitated content, it's the ThunderDome - and only feels like it isn't when RK-Bro are on the screen.

Fundamental systemic change is not happening. That would require Vince McMahon to question his brilliance.

Old guy wins belt it is!
