10 Failed Attempts To Recreate Great Wrestling Stables

4. D-Generation X

Following Stone Cold's lead, HBK and HHH's profane banter and juvenile humour was a rebellious shift in the presentation of a WWE product trying to create an insubordinate parallel to the nWo in 1997.

From suggestive promos to worked shoot comments about co-workers and their friends in WCW, DX were the most compelling part of Raw during their initial five-month run, prior to Shawn Michaels' first retirement.

In 1998, the DX name was reemployed to represent a new band of degenerates, with HHH as the new leader, joined by X-Pac and the New Age Outlaws.

This popular incarnation of DX, which lasted longer than any other, endured until 2000, when HHH became a fully fledged headline attraction.

While fans clamoured for a DX reunion after Michaels' return to the ring in 2002, we had to wait until 2006 to see what we thought we wanted to see - the original DX back together.

Years removed from being ungovernable 20 somethings, HHH and HBK were now engaging in drunk uncle banter to gladden a prepubescent audience.

Feuding with the McMahons and the Spirit Squad, in between their cringe-worthy attempts to peddle merchandise, DX was mercifully dropped after HHH's injury in 2006.

Only to return in 2009, more embarrassing than ever.
