10 Failed Pushes That Weren't WWE's Fault

9. William Regal

William Regal is English wrestling royalty, but even so, there was a time when he could have become an even more prominent figure in the business.

Regal was having the run of his career in 2007. He was thriving as the heel General Manager of Raw and even won the prestigious King of the Ring tournament. Things were looking golden. Then, all of a sudden, he was looking up at the lights in a loser gets fired match against Mr Kennedy, and would never get another main event push.

The reason for this sudden drop was a result of his violation of the Substance Abuse and Drug Testing Policy. Those procedures are put there for a reason, as WWE cannot afford to be sloppy in its performers' care, for their wrestler's sakes and the corporate image that they have to maintain. The company has rules, and Regal broke them, which brought his push to a grinding halt.

Of course, Regal would redeem his name and become one of the most beloved figures in recent WWE history thanks to his time as the GM of NXT. Still, if he'd played his cards better, he might have achieved that World Heavyweight Championship run that he always wanted.
