10 Fake Versions Of Popular WWE Superstars
9. Undertaker - Brian Lee
The Undertaker is one of the most legendary personas in all of wrestling and a character that is truly irreplaceable. Which is why WWF decided to replicate 'The Deadman' in 1994 with the Undertaker vs. Undertaker angle leading into SummerSlam.
With the real Undertaker (Mark Calaway) on hiatus, the faux 'Taker (or "The Underfaker" as he would soon be known) began to appear on WWF TV as Ted DiBiase's hired gun. Played by Brian Lee, The Underfaker looked, moved, and wrestled just like the original and was a great fill-in for the real thing.
Coincidentally, Lee had his tryout match with WWF at the This Tuesday In Texas PPV in 1991, the very same PPV that The Undertaker would lose his first WWF Championship to Hulk Hogan. When he reappeared as Fake 'Taker in 1994, Lee was in for the push of his life and the main event of SummerSlam was set.
The angle seemed like gold on paper and was something truly different. However, it never really took off and the pay-off match itself was slow, lumbering and flat. The real 'Taker won at SummerSlam and Lee would disappear from WWF immediately.
Ever one to learn from their mistakes, WWE would try and recreate the same angle 12 years later with Kane, with the same disappointing results.
