10 Fake Versions Of Popular WWE Superstars
6. Legend Of Doom - Johnny South
In the late '90s, wrestling was a hot topic around the world and big business in the UK. With WWF and WCW touring only sporadically at the time, local promoters capitalised on the hunger for "American Wrestling" by promoting "Tribute Shows". These shows would typically present UK wrestlers that resembled a big name and bill them as a tribute act, much like an Elvis impersonator at a local pub.
However, one such name that was a mainstay of the circuit during the '90s was Johnny South, better known at the time as Legend of Doom. Having originally appeared under his own name in the '70s and '80s, South began appearing as the LOD in the early '90s, capitalising on the success of the Road Warriors in the US.
While tribute shows were common during this period - and arguably helped keep British wrestling alive during this time - Johnny South's run as Legend of Doom was one of the more memorable acts to appear. So much so, that he carved out a pretty decent career for himself using the LOD gimmick.
As far as tributes go, South's version was uncanny and his appearance was spot on. South was the double of Road Warrior Hawk, to the point that many believed it was Mike Hegstrand. After ten years of alternating between himself and the LOD gimmick, South retired in 2005.
