10 Fake WWE Moments You Can't Un-See

9. Gimmicking The Cage

The express purpose of the Hell In A Cell gimmick is to prevent outside interference and trap the heel inside of the structure with the babyface so that the former has nowhere to run from the latter.

When both combatants are locked inside, their grudge is settled one on one with the maximum intensity and a gigantic weapon with which to distribute a reckoning of injustice.

WWE has never really adhered to this - the very first match sprawled to the roof of the cage - but that's what the paying public is meant to think. The paying public is meant to think the cage cannot be escaped; that way, when the wrestlers do break free, it is meant to resonate as a shocking prelude to an even greater feeling of danger.

The wrestlers aren't meant to be able to escape the structure - but if you look closely at it, you'll notice that there are convenient climbing holes ripped into the mesh to facilitate their escape. This makes the whole attraction look like a contrived facilitator of a stunt.

The structure has evolved from sinister cage to kid's activity attraction at Center Parcs.
