10 Fake WWE Moments You Can't Un-See
8. Calling The Spot
Ever notice that a wrestler appears to chat to their opponent when, for example, they have their opponent trapped in a headlock?
They aren't talking trash, though certain wrestlers could probably do with pretending to say what they're actually saying with a bit more attitude, a bit more menace. That way, it wouldn't be quite so blindingly obvious that they are in fact relaying instructions to their dance partner in what is a helpful reminder of the next phase of the match.
John Cena.
John Cena is the certain wrestler.
CM Punk is the other most notorious wrestler to expose this practise and break the spell of suspension of disbelief, but Cena, who many consider an all-time great, is the worst offender. Cena was once asked outright why he does this.
His explanation was possibly the most baffling thing to ever come out of a wrestler's mouth, and Bray Wyatt, Bully Ray and Booker T exist; Cena claimed that he doesn't feel like perfecting the craft because he allows many fans in the arena to get "in on the gag". He wants his fans to know that he's just putting on a show and not simulating a fight.
Translated accurately, what Cena is literally saying is "I want to spoil everybody's fun".
