10 Famous WWE Love Stories That Didn’t Survive The Wrestling Business

7. Edge & Lita

...because for a relationship that started with the violent roar of a lion, it went out with the delicate bleat of a lamb.

The very real tryst between Edge and Lita during Matt Hardy's time off the road with injury tore through the relationship between the former Women's Champion and the North Carolinian, as well as the long-standing friendship between two of the six men that revolutionised tag team wrestling at the turn of the century.

If Matt cracked open his window to the world with revelations of their affair on his website, WWE put a brick through it when they released him from his contract shortly afterwards.

Never one to steer away from a controversial situation back then when money was left on the table, Vince rehired the wronged party for a worked shoot summer programme with the 'Rated-R Superstar' that ultimately flattered to deceive. A SummerSlam fight was cannily devised but flawed in execution, whilst Edge's overall victory in the feud soured Matt's lone glory in an Unforgiven steel cage war.

With shaky foundations, Edge and Lita perhaps weren't destined to last, splitting on-screen in 2007 despite retaining their partnership until her retirement at the end of the year.
