4. Tama Tonga

Tama Tonga was long heralded as an underappreciated gem in the New Japan rough, someone continually overlooked, but who could deliver on a big stage if only given the chance.

Sadly, whether by storyline or his own choice, it seems that big stage will do just fine without him.

This year's G1 could've been a breakout run for him -- people were also saying this last year, and none of those matches blew anyone away -- but the constant interference and DQs in this year's tournament made for a frustrating watch, even if it was in service to the story.

Although it helps the Tongan faction and the Bullet Club Civil War storyline, the first casualty of the war is Tama Tonga's chance to break out as a single, which has most likely passed him by.

Tide yourself over with: his solid tag team work (with examples too numerous to mention) or hunt down his best singles match, Tama Tonga vs. Togi Makabe in 2016's New Japan Cup.
