10 Fascinating Facts About WWE In 2010
6. WWE Originally Cancelled Survivor Series
The first Survivor Series took place in 1987 and has been a stalwart on the pay-per-view schedule ever since. WWE's initial elimination format hasn't always been adhered to (sometimes at all), but it's impossible to imagine a year without Survivors regardless. Vinnie Mac was ready to pull the plug on it in 2010.
He told investors in February during a conference call that Survivor Series was “obsolete” and was going to be replaced in the November pay-per-view slot. Fans caught wind of that and petitioned for the boss to change his mind, and it worked. Tickets for Survivor Series 2010 went on sale in June, and it's never came that close to the chopping block since.
Triple H brought WarGames in to freshen things up in 2022; it looks like that will be the show's main hook for the foreseeable future. It'd be interesting to find out how many times Trips or other WWE creative forces pitched that to McMahon over the years.
