Going forward, Royal Rumbles were apt to produce one wrestler that would survive through the majority of the match. In the case of 1990, that honor went to Dibiase, a master technician who could buoy the early portion of the Rumble, partially through the continuation of his blood feud with Jake Roberts.

In all, Dibiase lasted nearly 45 minutes, the first Rumble entrant to ever pass the half-hour mark. Dibiase's time in the match shattered the previous record of 27:58, which was set by Mr. Perfect the previous year.

In each ensuing Rumble through the 1993 edition, a different wrestler would break the record. In order, Bret Hart, Perfect, Dibiase, Rick Martel, Ric Flair, and Bob Backlund would gain the duration title in consecutive years, topping each previous holder.
