10 Fascinating WWE Backstage Facts About Brock Lesnar
6. Tazz Introduced Him To Paul Heyman
It didn’t take long for Brock Lesnar to graduate from the famous Ohio Valley Wrestling class of 2002. The star of WWE’s old developmental territory, the future Next Big Thing made his way to the dark match circuit quicker than most.
It was there that he met Paul Heyman for the first time. Tazz has claimed that he introduced the two of them, creating an onscreen duo that’s dominated the world of wrestling for the last 20 years.
Apparently, Lesnar was told not to sell the offense of other wrestlers, due to his size and amateur wrestling background (he was an NCAA Champion in college after all). Tazz overheard this bad advice and told him to speak to Heyman about how to improve his character in the ring. When Paul saw Brock having a match for the first time, he knew there was something special about him.
The future advocate approached the one-day Beast Incarnate as he sat in the bleachers, taking in everything he could. Brock told him that he was happy to be coached and the rest is history. The two got on so well that when Lesnar debuted on the first Raw after WrestleMania X8, the man fans knew as the former owner of Extreme Championship Wrestling, and one-time commentary partner to Jim Ross, was standing by his side.
