10 Fascinating WWE Facts About Kane
8. His Biblical Influence
On the surface, Kane isn't exactly the holiest character in WWE history.
A colossal brute with a penchant for burning things, the Big Red Machine has regularly indulged in each of the seven deadly sins throughout his career, particularly wrath. He'd be nothing without his lust for destruction, and heaven doesn't typically hold a place for people like Kane.
Despite all this, WWE have routinely drawn on religious allegories to promote Kane's character. The phrase "hellfire and brimstone" has followed him for years, particularly when Jim Ross was on commentary, and the saying itself comes from the New Testament's original description of hell. Both words are used as symbols of God's wrath within the holy book, and are intended to create a season of dread in potential sinners while encouraging repentance among those who have already sinned.
The most obvious parallel comes from Kane's ring name, however. The Biblical tale of Cain and Abel tells the story of an elder brother (Cain) who killed his young sibling out of jealousy over being favoured by God. Kane didn't quite murder The Undertaker, but he certainly tried, and his mid/late-career purgatory mirrors the punishment Cain endured for his crime. Their names might make the comparison blatantly obvious, but the parallels are a lot more nuanced that one would normally expect from WWE.
