Diesel was, pun not intended, trucking along nicely by the early summer of 1994. With ally Shawn Michaels taking a break from the ring, Diesel was thrust into the spotlight as a capable monster, winning the Intercontinental belt from Razor Ramon earlier in the spring. For the King of the Ring, Diesel took part in a champion-vs-champion bout with WWE titleholder Bret Hart, in probably Kevin Nash's first great singles match.

To Nash's credit, he performed in the 23-minute match with torn muscles in his groin. Hart notes in his autobiography that the touring schedule at this point in time was especially grueling, and the roster as a whole was feeling the effects of jetting from one town to the next. For Nash to have worked an admirable match while most assuredly in great pain, with nobody the wiser, is incredible.
